CLINICAL PROCESS

Your Prosthetic Rehabilitation Journey

Our structured prosthetic care pathway aligns with HPCSA professional standards and SAOPA billing protocols.

01

Medical Referral & Consultation

Initial clinical review. A referral letter from a medical doctor or specialist surgeon (Orthopaedic, Vascular, General) is required for specialist consultation and medical aid approval.

02

Residual Limb Assessment

Evaluation of residual limb shape, scar tissue, joint range-of-motion, muscle strength, skin integrity, volume stability, and patient functional mobility goals.

03

Measurements, Casting & Digital Scanning

Capturing precise anatomical geometry using plaster impression techniques, mechanical measurements, or 3D digital scanning for custom socket fabrication.

04

Pre-Authorisation & Component Selection

Selection of high-quality feet, knees, liners, and socket materials based on SAOPA tariff coding. Submission of motivation letters for medical aid pre-authorisation (Discovery, GEMS, Bonitas, Momentum, COID, RAF).

05

Diagnostic Fitting & Dynamic Alignment

Trial fitting using a transparent check-socket to verify pressure distribution, followed by dynamic gait alignment tuning and skin interface inspection.

06

Definitive Fitting & Rehabilitation Follow-up

Delivery of the final prosthesis, gait training guidance, socket volume management instruction, and scheduled routine reviews as your residual limb matures.

COMPREHENSIVE AFTERCARE

Beyond the Device: Long-Term Prosthetic Support

Successful limb loss rehabilitation relies on far more than the prosthetic components alone. An optimal outcome depends on precise socket comfort, vacuum suspension integrity, dynamic gait alignment, ongoing limb volume monitoring, and dedicated follow-up care.

Because Medical Orthotists & Prosthetists operate as allied healthcare specialists, our practice handles the entire pre-authorisation and motivation process with your medical aid, ensuring seamless billing according to SAOPA tariff structures for patients across Mdantsane, East London, and King William's Town.
